Selecting Months and Strategies

The Spread dropdown allows you to choose whether or not strategies are visible in the Market Tab Strip. If a contract has no spreads available then the ‘SP’ button will not be displayed. The SP dropdown will display all available strategies for that market. If you do not want to see all the available markets choose the first 2 months only option.

Once visible, selecting Spreads is the same as selecting any other market. To the right of each spread market is a carrot dropdown with all available spreads for that front month.

Selecting Studies

Click this button to pull up a list of all studies

Or right click on the chart to pull up a menu, and choose “Add Study…”

Studies and Overlays Available

All Studies and Overlays listed here are available in the Core+Charting Package and will only be 1 minute or above. To view our pricing and what is available in each package please click here to view our Version Comparison.

NOTE: Not included in the Core+Charting package is anything that requires Data below 1 minute. Point and Figure Charts, Renko Charts, Heikin Ashi Charts as well as creating a Custom Session Times, Custom Chart Scripting. The Advanced Data & Charting package is required to receive these.

Renko Charts

The Advanced Data & Charting package is required to access Renko Charts.

Creating a Renko Chart

There are two ways to switch to a Renko chart. Either use the Chart Type drop down button on the toolbar, or change the chart type from the properties window.

(Note: When switching between Renko and any other chart type, all studies and drawing tools are removed from the chart.)

This will change the chart to a Renko type of chart and activate additional configuration properties.

Renko Concepts

Renko charts are built off of an “underlying” data set. By default, the Renko charts are created off of 1 minute bar closing prices. There is a configuration option to change from using the 'close' value to using the 'high/low' values of the bars instead. The interval is also user-configurable (e.g. 15-minute, 1-hour, etc.).

The Renko chart uses a “pencil-in” feature when updating from live data. The chart updates real-time on every trade in the market. However, until the underlying bar officially closes, the chart will only temporarily display this live data. If the next trade changes the current underlying bar, these temporary updates are erased and redrawn. Pencilled-in updates are displayed faded out so that they can be distinguished from the permanent data. Any studies displayed on the chart will also update on real-time trades, however, the studies will not be displayed faded out (only the point and figure boxes).

Subscribers of the Advanced charting package have the option of changing the underlying data set to '1 Trade'. This results in a tick-based Renko chart which updates upon every trade in the market.

Brick size is configurable on the Renko charts as well. This configuration is done in price increments. E.g., a Renko chart with a brick size of 5 would mean that every brick displayed on the chart covers 5 price increments.

Renko Brick Shape

The shape of the Renko bricks on our charts may not necessarily be perfectly square as you would expect. If you want them to look that way, right-click drag on the time/price axes to adjust the brick sizes as appropriate.

Studies on Renko Charts

Renko charts only support a subset of studies of the regular charts. If you require a particular study and do not see it listed in the available studies, feel free to drop our support an email and we will look into getting it added.

Point and Figure Charts

The Advanced Data & Charting package is required to access Point and Figure Charts.

Creating a Point and Figure Chart

There are two ways to switch to a Point and Figure chart. Either use the Chart Type drop down button on the toolbar, or change the chart type from the properties window.

(Note: When switching between Point and Figure and any other chart type, all studies and drawing tools are removed from the chart.)

Point and Figure Concepts

Point and Figure charts are built off of an “underlying” data set. By default, the Point and Figure charts are created off of 1 minute bar closing prices. There is a configuration option to change from using the 'close' value to using the 'high/low' values of the bars instead. The interval is also user-configurable (e.g. 15-minute, 1-hour, etc.).

The Point and Figure chart uses a “pencil-in” feature when updating from live data. The chart updates real-time on every trade in the market. However, until the bar officially closes, the chart will only temporarily display this live data. If the next trade changes the current underlying bar, these temporary updates are erased and redrawn. Pencilled-in updates are displayed faded out so that they can be distinguished from the permanent data. Any studies displayed on the chart will also update on real-time trades, however the studies will not be displayed faded out (only the point and figure boxes).

Subscribers of the Advanced charting package have the option of changing the underlying data set to '1 Trade'. This results in a tick-based point and figure chart which updates upon every trade in the market.

Box and Reversal sizes are configurable on the point and figure charts as well. These configurations are done in price increments. E.g., a 10×3 Point and Figure chart would be created by setting the Box Size to 10 and the Reversal Size to 3, meaning each box would cover ten price increments, and a reversal of 30 increments would be required to signal a reversal.

Studies on Point and Figure Charts

Point and Figure charts only support a subset of studies of the regular charts. Some studies (such as volume or anything based on volume) do not make sense on point and figure charts. Others have not been updated to support the pencil-in feature of updating. If you require a particular study and do not see it listed in the available studies, feel free to drop our support an email and we will look into getting it added.

New Screen Drop Down

You can pull different windows directly from the chart. Click the dropdown button to choose from a contract window, a New Chart, Market Profile, Spread Matrix, a Market History window, or an Account Contract window.

Crosshairs

Charts can now display a global crosshair that will match time and price across multiple chart windows. To enable global crosshairs, toggle the global crosshair button (1) in the chart toolbar. This button will turn the feature on for all charts that have crosshairs enabled. To disable crosshairs on individual charts, toggle the crosshair button (2) in the chart toolbar.

View Chart Data

Click “Chart Data” button to open new window:

NOTE: This is available on our Core+Charting Package. The Advanced Data package is not required.

When opened the Chart Data window looks like this:

Everything about this window is “live”. All the data updates live.

Columns can be hidden/restored by clicking the button. The data as a whole can be exported using the export toolbar button. The price format can be changed by clicking the drop down menu and select from Price, Tick Value and Cash. The data can be sorted, by clicking the column headers.

TIP: Column display and data sort are not preserved, when switching studies the grid reverts back to the defaults.

When exporting the data to file or clipboard (for pasting into Excel), what you see is what you get… e.g. if the data is sorted, columns re-arranged or hidden, price format changed, etc. that is how the data gets exported.

If rows are selected, just those rows or a single cell can be copied to the clipboard using a right-click context menu.

DDE Button

Enables dynamic streaming of data into Excel Click the DDE button to make a copy of the current Chart data as DDE links. Open an Excel spreadsheet and paste. Market data will begin streaming to the Excel spreadsheet.

Helpful Tips

  • The links are tied to the chart window.
  • If you close the chart window, the links break. The document values should change to #N/A:
  • If you change the settings on a study, or the bar-interval of the chart, the excel document should change to match.
  • If you remove a study, the links for that study break. Re-adding the study will not fix it.
  • The excel links will work across restarts of T4.

Chart Properties

Chart properties can be configured by clicking on the chart properties button. The properties are used to further customize how information is displayed. As a new study is added, the properties of that study are also added to the chart properties area. The same properties can be chosen by right clicking on the chart.

Click the Properties button in the upper left corner of the Chart to open the Chart Properties.

Helpful Hint: You can also right click from within the chart to bring up a menu that will allow you to select the properties as well.

* Chart Type: Left click in the value area to choose the chart type you want to create. Note you can also change this from the chart type drop down on your chart. You can choose from the below.

TIP:

  • The “Ticks” interval means “trades“. So a 200 tick chart cuts a new bar every 200 trades regardless of volume or price.
  • A “Tick Range” chart cuts a new bar based on price. So in a 10 tick range chart every bar would be the same height (10 tick prices).
  • A “Volume” chart cuts a new bar based on volume.
